There is no doubt that the replacement of Jason Statham is a big loss for the series. But Ed Skrein still does a good job taking the role on from him. But the real star in this movie was Ray Stevenson.
One thing I really liked about this film is that the relationship between Frank Martin and his girl is not on the first plane, but rather it is father-son relationship. This kind of adds a new flavor to the movies. And the Skrein-Stevenson pair does an awesome job delivering this relationship to the screen. Let’s hope they will keep it in future movies.
Another cool thing is that there is not one, but four girls interacting with both Martins. And the fighting scenes, especially in the nightclub, were spectacular. So, I think, the whole film crew does a really amazing job keeping traditions of Statham Transporter movies, while also successfully adding new elements.
My only complaint for this version of Frank Martin is that he talks too much, especially in the beginning of the movie. Statham’s Martin wasn’t like that. Transporter isn’t supposed to be like that. I loved the movie, but in the first half I thought – Is he ever gonna shut up?
I’d give it 8/10.
